I love the beginning of this passage. “God remembered Noah.” It’s not as if God just walked away while they were on the ark and then one day they just popped back into His mind. But don’t you know it had been a long few months for Noah and his family. All of those animals, sea-sickness, smells, no privacy. Yuck. I’m sure that we have all experience times in our lives where we have asked, “God, where are you?” I know I have. This one sentence doesn’t mean that God had forgotten Noah, but that God was faithful to Noah. God made Noah a promise and God was faithful to keep that promise. God is always faithful to us. I would imagine that they were terribly anxious to get off of that boat, but they patiently waited. God in all of His detailed wisdom had them wait until the ground was dry. As many times as I’ve read this story, I’ve never noticed that. It would have been incredibly muddy so God had them wait until the ground was dry so that they would have to slop around in the mud. I just really appreciate that about my God! After getting all of those animals off of the ark, Noah’s first action was to worship God. There was no boasting or whining. Simply worship. Noah’s response causes me to ask myself, “What is my response when God uses my life?” Is it to return the praise and glory to Him or seek it for myself? Did you catch at the beginning of Chapter 9 that God gives Noah’s family the same instructions that He had given to Adam and Eve? “Be fruitful and multiply.” God’s plan for mankind continues. Yet, this chapter ends tragically. Ham ends up with a curse and Shem ends up with a blessing. This is crucial to God’s story of redemption. Never lose sight of the unfolding story.
